Breath In, Breath Out. Chocolate?

Image via NPR, credit Phase One Photography
The beginnings of a new food revolution! David Edwards, the creator of Le Whif, is a biomedical engineering professor at Harvard University. He began looking at the concept of "eating by breathing" back in the Fall of 2007, and now his creation, Le Whif, is available in a variety of breathable chocolate flavors (Pure Chocolate, Raspberry Chocolate and Mint Chocolate) as well as perhaps the more interesting flavor, Coffee. Each hit of the Coffee releases about 100 milligrams of caffeine which is comparable to a shot of espresso. The lipstick-sized, biodegradable container contains very small particles of chocolate or coffee that when breathed in, coat the mouth and maximize the flavor experience. Not to worry; the particles are too large to enter the lungs.

The Cambridge Chronicle interviewed the professor below:

So what is the benefit for eating in this manner? Some might argue that people will not want to give up satisfying their cravings by biting into a piece of chocolate, but what about those that are trying to watch what they eat. Le Whif happens to be less that one calorie. This sounds like a great way to have your cake and eat it too, I mean breath it too.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this in the future. Will we be breathing our veggies soon. Will new "breathable eating" five-star restaurants emerge? "I'll start with the breathable Oysters Rockefeller and for the entree, the Surf and Turf, please." Will McDonalds introduce a new no-calorie menu and offer the classic Big Mac?

See what others are saying about it.

One-Calorie Chocolate Bender - O, the Oprah Magazine

What do you think? Will you give Le Whif the sniff test?

NEW Yogurtland Flavors

Yogurtland has just added two new non-fat frozen yogurt flavors to the line-up; one of them being Red Velvet Cupcake Batter! The other flavor, called Yuzu Tart, is made from a rare, exotic citrus. I am happy to say that I have tried both flavors and they are excellent! The Red Velvet tastes just like eating cupcake batter (I know we are not supposed to do that, but who doesn't. We all know its good). I was surprised at the Yuzu Tart, because I was expecting it to be super tart and it was just the right ration of tart to sweet.

Yogurtland is a self-serve frozen yogurt chain that boast about 27 flavors which they alternate regularly. While their take on the standard flavors like Arctic Vanilla, Fresh Strawberry and Dutch Chocolate are available most of the time; others appear during the holidays, such as: Pumpkin Pie (one of my favorites), Candy Cake, Eggnog and Gingerbread. They also keep it interesting with Green Tea, Taro, Pomegranate Raspberry Tart and Lychee Tart frozen yogurts.

New Show to air on TLC - Cupcake Sisters

Following the success of TLC's Cake Boss, the network will be adding another yummy TV concoction to its food repertoire.

Airing this summer, Cupcake Sisters, which follows owners and sisters Katherine Kallinis and Sophie LaMontagne, of Georgetown Cupcake in Washington, DC and chronicles the daily challenges of being in the business of making these oh-so-sweet confections. The sisters started the shop in 2008, after deciding to leave their careers to follow their dream, and have been paving a road of success ever since. Can't wait to see where they go from here!

Get your Groupon!

If you haven't checked out Groupon yet, it is pretty cool.

Great concept for savvy shoppers and companies that have a great product to sell.

Example:

Recently, a new local bakery offered a discount on an order of a 1/2 dozen cupcakes and they sold almost 1400 orders in one day. Great way to get the word out about your business and a great deal for everyone else.
